Teaching has always been something I’ve enjoyed too, starting with sports and eventually moving into coding. What I really like about teaching coding to children is how much personality they put into what they make. Sometimes I’m just as curious to see how their project turns out as they are. I have a BSc in Psychology from Brighton University and really enjoyed the data side of my degree, especially using SPSS. This sparked an interest in coding and later led me to learn Python.

Policies

Rescheduling lessons

If you need to reschedule a lesson for any reason, please give us at least 24 hours notice by either contacting your tutor or a member of our team at hello@blueshiftcoding.com and we will do our best to move the session for you.

If your child is feeling unwell, we might be able to reschedule your lesson up to 2 hours before the lesson is supposed to start for online tuition, and up to 4 hours before the lesson is due to start for in-person tuition.

Missing a lesson

Please be aware that if you miss a lesson for any reason and do not give us at least 24 hours notice we will take this as a no-show and charge you the full rate of this session without an opportunity to reschedule, as we must compensate our tutors for their time.

Is my child the right age for tutoring?

We tutor children aged 5-16 years old. Each lesson is specially adapted to your child so that our tutors are able to guide them through their journey from block-based to text-based coding as they mature and progress!
How often can I have the sessions?

Our tutoring service is completely bespoke, so whether you would like one session a week or three, we'll match you with a tutor who is able to meet your needs.
What language should my child start with?

This depends on their age and experience, our general guide is: 5 year olds should start with Scratch Jr on an iPad, 6-8 year olds should start with Scratch on a computer, 8-10 year olds should start with JavaScript or Python at a basic level and 10+ should start with JavaScript or Python at a more advanced level. However this will depend on their experience, if you are unsure you can book a consultation or contact us at hello@blueshiftcoding.com, or wait until your child's trial session where their tutor can assess their ability.
