Tokyo STEAM Robotics Championship 2025

Blueshift went international – and what a ride it was!

About the programme

In 2025, Blueshift took on a new challenge, alongside our partners at Coding Education: to bring over 200 students from all around Latin America to Tokyo for a champion of champions championship, where they would hone their best and most innovative robotics ideas, while attempting to solve a real world problem in their home community.

After a careful selection of our most dedicated and expert teachers, a team was found of people who would not only put together a fully custom and bespoke innovative curriculum for students aged 12 to 17 – accessible enough for the younger ones and scalable enough for the more experienced and able students.

For the six months ahead of the programme, we worked alongside CodEd to guide each participating team into choosing a doable and interesting project to focus on, and provided basic, intermediate and advance level Python courses, as well as a TinkerCAD 3D design and printing course, so that all the students could have a level playing field, by the time they arrived in Tokyo.

Once we arrived in Tokyo, it was game on. For the following week, we delivered three high focus and high reward days of workshops, where students were able to assemble their XRP robots by themselves, receive the 3D printed robotics additions that they had designed (and we had 3D printed in London and flown around the world), and finally competed by completing a challenging obstacle course, all while programming their robots in Python. Not to forget, their project impact and implementation plan. From eWaste to aquatic drones and organic and sustainable sunscreens, each team of students presented ideas that completely blew our minds.

While judging was, by far, the toughest role, it was an enormous priviledge also and, at the end, an even bigger success. Tokyo will move to be Blueshift's destination every couple of years, innovating and adapting at each corner, in the city of innovation.
